Just a Quick Hello From President Ortiz

Dear Dr. Waug,
Thank you for doing what you could to reduce the speed at which the USA borrowed money in your generation. A trillion dollars every two and a half years? Even now, with our dollars worth only .3% of what they were in the early 2000's, we still feel luck only to owe $2 Quintillion to the great Chinese people, who obliginly are letting us pay back at only 8 percent interest.

I case you don't know who I am, I am the second president of Mexican lineage. My father was one of the people who was granted citizenship after being in the USA for 62 years. He's so proud! And he's proud of me, even if I don't live in the old White House, but in a condo in Maryland. Times have changes, but at least I haven't had to declare war on anybody.

Adios, amigo!
Danny Ortiz, President
United States of America

You're Welcome, Patricia!

Hi, Patricia.
I agree with you, things have to change. I admire Dr. Sim and to others like Dr. Daniel J. Jacob at Harvard, and all his co-workers. I admire Dr. Weiskel and Dr. Moomaw. You can use Google if you have access to it wherever you are. Just write in their names and see more about them.

I'm just a little guy with a little voice, but I'm going to continue doing the WAUG BLOG as long as I can, for your sake.

With warmest wishes,
Dr. James

You're Welcome, Patricia!

Thanks for your help, Dr. Waug!

Hi, Dr. Waug,

My name is Patricia Long, and I'm kind of new at writing, and I never thought of doint it, but I've been watching your WAUGkidsWeb for a while, and I just have to say Thank You! I'm Patricia Long. I will be born in 2067, and I think that's going to be OK. It's 130 years after you were born, so u may be dead, but I'll always thank you for helping us by posting our messages to your own generation.

If they listen to you, it will make a big difference, and some people don't think anyone will listen, but I do, and you and a lot of people like u, especially Dr. Sim and her friends, will succeed and get the people to wake up and tell their governments to stop the injustice, crazy spending of borrowed money, and the way everyone is cutting trees and burning fuel, which needs trees to suck up the exhaust from burnt fuel. It's like everyone is really ignorant, or just doesn't care about anyone else.

I know you and the others who really do care are working on ways to wake people up. Me and my friends really appreciate what you are doing.

Thanks,

Patcia Long,
Hoping you succeed, because I don't want to live is a horrible world.

Why Are You Wasting Your Time and your Readers' Time?

Dear Dr. Waug,

My name is Yugo J. Navigadr, Ph.D., chairman of sociology at SuCasa Community College, and I'm fed up with all this nonesense about WAUG kids and the "Great Do Nothing Generation." Either you are a fool, or a madman, or some prankster who should be on MyFace. Isn't it clear that God rules the weather, the oceans, theland and the heavens? Isn't it presumptuous to think tiny little humans. like a swarm of mischevious ants, can destroy life on this planet?

Your crazy correspondence with imaginary WAUGkids from the future suggests you have not serious pen-pals and no idea what you're talking about. I'd like to know A. why your are wasting your time on this stupid blog and B. what kind of background you have to talk about the future and pretend to receive letters from kids who will be born seventy or eightly years from now.

My significant other, Marie, pointed out your posts about hydrogen cars and the some girl who will live in "Atlanta Shores" in the future. I looked at them, and glanced at a couple of others, and you are probably the biggest fool I've ever run into on the Internet.

Disappointed in you in SuCasa, California, 2008

Yugo J. Navigadr, Ph.D.
Chairman, Sociology
SuCasa Community College
SuCasa, CA

Dear Professor Navigadr,

Thank you for your feedback. I value the comments, flattering or unflattering, of all my readers, and yours in particular serves to make me ask, Am I Crazy? Or am I simply another Don Quixote, fighting with forces too vast for my weak abilities?

As for your comment about God, "Isn't it clear that God rules the weather, the oceans, theland and the heavens?" I mean no offense to God, but I also believe that God gives us intelligence, and when we use it rightly, we can foresee problems and try to head them off. Part of God's plan seems to involve mankind's use of intelligence, which is now able to assess the state of the earth's weather systems in ways thousands of times more powerful than ever before. All the science seems to point in only one direction: We can say that the earth we inherited from our parents and ancestors was quite different from the earth and its sky and oceans today, and all vectors seem to indicate than God will allow us to continue upsetting the world's climates until we wake up and take the actions needed to stop the imbalances and reverse the harm we've already caused.

Your second question, "Isn't it presumptuous to think tiny little humans. like a swarm of mischevious ants, can destroy life on this planet?" is raised by many serious thinkers, but the answer is, "No, it is not presumptuous, but rather, it is based on undeniable observations and conclusions of thousands of scientists of every kind worldwise." Our species, Homo sapiens, is the only one on earth known to "soil its own nest," and create waste dumps, toxic runoff, nuclear waste, and huge, dangerous and destructive dams, like the big one plaguing China currently, and the Aswan dam in Egypt, which has upset the annual cycle of soil renewal along the Nile and degraded the quality of the Mediterranean Sea as an environment for aquatic life.

My use of imaginary WAUGkids is a commonplace literary technique, used by the foremost political philosopher of recent times, John Rawls. of Harvard in this Theory of Justice and other works.

How i wish you a wonderful new year in 2008.

Dr. Waug

Jason upset about Grandfather's House

Dear Dr. Waug,

I am really upset! My name is Jason, and I heard that instead of living in my
Grandfather’s house in Malibu, I’m going to grow up and live in Sacramento! Boy, the Great Do-Nothing Generation is really disrespecting us WAUGkids! Because of the rising ocean, the prediction is my Grandfather’s house will fall off the cliff and disappear! My parents, who have not been born yet, will have to move away from the ocean. Man, I was dreaming of all the good times, beach parties, and stuff, and now the scientists predict California will get the worst ***** job of all. What’s wrong with your generation? Are they all idiots?

Jason, upset in the future in Sacramento.

Dear Jason destined for Sacramento,
I hate to see you so upset, and you aren’t even alive yet! Yes, it looks bad for your grandfather’s house with the great view. Are those of us alive right now doing enough to stop you from living in Sacramento? Not yet. I hate to tell you, but instead of reversing things and creating cleaner air and less climate change, all we can talk about at this time is slowing down the speed of the destruction which has already begun. I have not seen any proposals that propose cleaning up the greenhouse gases, only proposals about continuing as we are doing now, but slowing down the growth of the gases. They will continue to tip the balance of nature father and father toward disaster, but will put the worst disasters off for a decade or two, or even a century, but things don’t look too good, and nobody has suggested a way to really fix things and restore what we had in 1900 or even 1950, or 2000. I’m posting your letter on my blog, hoping a lot of “small” people like me will see it and do something, almost anything, to stop the climate change problem.

Your friend in the GDNG,
Dr. Waug
